MacSlurp

Current Version: 1.5.7

MacSlurp is an offline newsreading facilitator. It requires other applications to read the news once it completes its job of downloading the articles.

Beta:
Version 1.6d7 adding/changing the following: (Thanks, Andrew Starr.)

  • Non-modal and greatly spiffed up and otherwise improved progress/status window.
  • Completely revamped "Options" dialog. Now has a custom control to set the last fetch date/time rather than the old, gross, manual way of entering it.
  • Optionally only generate one rnews batchfile per slurp rather than many.
  • Completely revamped Apple Event support. MacSlurp now supports (albeit very basically) the Object model. Almost all configuration options can now be read via scripting and most can be set as well. Old scripts will probably need rewriting but the improvements should be worth it.
  • Supports Frontier menu sharing. (There is a Frontier installer file and a special UCMD to allow Frontier to handle AppleScript style dates.)
  • Fixed bug where an overlong header line would crash MacSlurp.
  • Year 2000 compliant.
  • Can now work if the news server doesn't have unix time service.
  • Various other minor bugs fixed.

Also, if you have an older Mac, be sure to check out the "Classic" applications page for more options.

Finally, take a look at ALEMIA if you think you know that name of an application, but aren't quite sure.

Of Note . . .

No, I don't accept reviews anymore for these older applications. With the creation of this page in the Orchard's late 2005 redesign, I only accept reviews for currently-developed applications that work on Mac OS X (or later....whatever that might be!!).
